Short biography:
Robert Hofmann is a sound engineer, musician and musicologist based in Vienna, Austria. His musical and academic journey led him from studying composition and music theory in Würzburg, Germany, to completing a degree in Tonmeister studies – a combined course of music and audio engineering – as well as a PhD in musicology focussed on the theory of musical rhythm at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Already an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, he has long been interested in gesture-controlled electronic instruments, such as the theremin and the Ondes Martenot. He has been active as a musician (mainly on piano and guitar), as well as a songwriter and sound engineer for the chamber pop duo Pannón Melankólikusok. In 2023, he accquired an Ondéa – a modern recreation of the Ondes Martenot – and playing this instrument has been his main musical focus ever since.
